Public Transport: For those preferring a more relaxed travel experience, public transport offers a viable choice. Trains and buses are available from Melbourne to Daylesford, providing a comfortable and cost-effective mode of transportation. The V/Line train service is a popular option, with regular trains departing from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne to Daylesford.

Tours and Shuttles: I also recommend joining a guided tour or shuttle service, which is an excellent way to explore Daylesford hassle-free. Sault Restaurant, Mercato @ Daylesford, and The Argus Dining Room offer an exquisite dining affair, combining flavors and techniques to present a culinary masterpiece.  I chose to have lunch at The Farmer’s Arms Hotel with friends.The pub is 165 years old and there is a choice of eating options including dining room and garden. The dining experience was good. We had Saganaki for entree and for mains my friends had the Coq au Vin and the Pork Belly while I ravished the Beer Battered Fish and Chips.  I requested the chips be replaced with salad and the staff were very obliging.  I can also report the Gin and Tonics were very, very nice. The Farmer’s Arms Hotel Daylesford.

I stayed at The Studio on Bridport which I booked through booking.com  The studio is a small one bedroom house at the back of a residential house. I really loved it because it felt very private and it had all the amenities – bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen and even it’s own porch. It’s a perfect getaway for a couple or a solo traveller like me!

Bookings are essential and can be made by phone (03) 5348 6123 or email: visitorinfo@hepburn.vic.gov.au. Upon collection of the equipment photo ID is required, and all users must sign the conditions of use form.  The TrailRider is an all terrain access wheelchair which allows community members and tourists with physical and mobility issues to explore the great outdoors and experience some of Hepburn Shire’s parks, reserves, tracks and trails.  Free to hire access ramps are a temporary solution to small steps or bumps. There are two types of ramps available to hire, details of the types of ramps can be found at the link above.

Are there any markets in the Daylesford area?  Daylesford Market – every Sunday, Creswick Market – 3rd Saturday of the month and Clunes Farmer Market – Every 2nd Sunday of the month.

What is the best short walk in Daylesford?  In my opinion, the 30 minute walk around Lake Daylesford.

How much does it cost to get to Daylesford by public transport? In March 2023 a state government announcement was made regarding public transport costs in regional areas. Travel across Victoria became considerably cheaper with the introduction of a daily fare cap for regional train and coach travel. The cap is at $9.20, so theoretically it shouldn’t cost more than $9.20 to get to Daylesford by public transport. It’s best to check the V/Line website for current fares and schedules.

What is the population of Daylesford? As of the last census in September 2021, Daylesford’s population was estimated to be around 2,781 residents. For the most current and accurate population information, please refer to the latest census data or relevant official sources.
