Day trippin’ to Northern Ireland, U.K.

I decided to do a road trip from Dublin into Northern Ireland to check out a couple of Game of Thrones locations. My cousin, Liam in Dublin helped me by sending me directions and I was off on a nice little drive north.

The drive from Dublin to the Dark Hedges felt quite long. If I had left a little earlier I could have made a stop on the way. I had read on Trip Advisor that it is always crowded and hard to get a photo without people getting into the background. When I got there one other car was there and they were actually leaving so I had it all to myself.

The Dark Hedges are ancient beech trees that have been voted in the Top Five Tree Tunnels in the world.

Next I headed south of Belfast to County Down (still in Northern Ireland) to Tolleymore Forest. This location was used in Game of Thrones  as the Haunted Forest.

The day was long but I travelled all the way up to County Antrim in Nothern Ireland from Dublin. I started at about 11.30am and got back to Dublin at about 8pm. That included slowing to a standstill in Belfast and Dublin, stopping for petrol and having dinner in Dundalk on the way home.
